The perfect winter dress in a beautiful red & black Viyella plaid styled by Fredrick Howard of London.
Viyella was a fabric which was originally designed to combine lightness and fashion with warmth and durability. It has also been described as a fine wool flannel for women who wanted both "daintiness" and "protectiveness". It has been used by designers interested in "vintage" style, like Laura Ashley, and creators of "modern classics".
This dress is a perfect example of all of the above. The fabric is truly soft with an almost flannel~type feel to it due to the wool/cotton blend. Shirt front button up bodice with 9 buttons, twin button cuffs and matching belt. Exquisite design and craftsmanship. I spent hours looking for information about this dress but found very little to help me "date" it. I am guessing late 1970s to early 1980s.
Simple. Elegant. Timeless.
