A very grown up black dress by the famous house of Luis Estevez. Simple jewel neckline belies the sexy V~back plunge. The body of the dress is a combination of a princess seam outline with contour & french darts with a long~line waist which extends onto hips for a very form fitting result, reminiscent of a 30's bias cut fit. The back is a deep V plunge with pleated draping on either side which merges into the bustle at the waist. There is a 16" metal zipper (only 12" visible) at the center in the back. There is a ribbon sewn inside the waist line with a hook & eye closure to nip in the waist even more. There are @ 6 loops sewn inside the left side of the V in the back and thread remnants on the right side to match, which I am assuming are what is left of hook & eye closures. I do not know if they were part of the original design or if they were added later for a more modest look. The sleeves have elbow darts for comfortable fit and 4" metal zippers at wrist. The body of the dress is fully lined in a black acetate~type fabric, the sleeves are not lined. There is no fabric label, but it is some sort of luscious rayon blend that feels cool to the touch and is rather heavy, but very soft & swishy at the same time. The color is rather hard to convey in the photographs. Some photos were lightened to show the seams/details of the dress but this also washed out the dress itself. It is a solid, deep black dress but has that slight vintage tone to it very common to dark dresses from the 1950s.
SIZE: Unmarked. About a modern 6/8
Dress had to be pinned for the photos as it was too big on the size 6 dress form in the shoulders & bust. A very form~fitting design.
MEASUREMENTS:
Bust: 36~38"
Waist: 25" with ribbon hooked.
Hips: 36~38"
Bust to Waist: 7.5"
Waist to Hemline: 29"
Garment Length: 46" (from top of shoulder seam to base of hemline)
Sleeve Length: 23"
Hemline Circumference: 40"
CONDITION: Very good. There are a few very minor issues that keep me from calling it Excellent. There is a tiny bit of fray at the front of the neckline where the lining is hand-sewn. There is an 1/8" x 1/4" hole 6 inches up from hemline just to the right of center. It is not terribly obvious as the black lining camouflages it well. The majority of the hem has been hand~stitched with translucent thread, though some of the original stitching is in place. I repaired the cuff hem on the right sleeve as it had unraveled a bit. There is a bit of "pressing sheen" in some places on the dress, which is quite common with this type of fabric. A stunning dress despite these few minor issues.
Dry Cleaned and ready to wear.
