We proudly present this rare and beautiful Sybil Connolly couture suit c1960, fashioned in the box cut style so popular in that decade. This suit is made from red wool tweed, complimented by matching silk lining and was made with the finest of couture techniques. The jacket boasts 8 panel construction with princess seams on front and back. Rolled notch collar. Faux patch pockets. 3/4 length sleeves. The hem is stayed with 6 weights sewn into the hemline. There are three lovely crocheted buttons, a detail Ms. Connolly was known for in her designs as a tribute to her beloved homeland, Ireland.
The skirt has two lapped metal zippers on each side and a faced waistband that is finished with a black grosgrain ribbon, hanger loops and 8 large hook & eye fasteners (four on each side). It has raised princess seams for added detail in front and back and a two inch hand stitched hem.
Sybil Connolly designs are highly sought after and her work is respected the world over. Jacqueline Kennedy chose a Sybil Connolly design when she had her official portrait painted for The White House. As the early 1970s rolled around, Ms. Connolly refused to sucuumb to the latest trends. She once said "There comes a time in everyones life as a designer when you have to decide whether you want to create the beautiful or the merely fashionable. Sadly, there can be a conflict between the two."

CONDITION: Very Good to Excellent. There are some holes in the silk lining close to the hemline of the jacket & under the left arm. There is a pinprick hole under the right arm on the lining. There is the slight hint of fading under the arms on the lining. The bottom button on the jacket is coming loose, but they are sewn on in the braided button stem technique which I am not skilled at and will leave to the buyer's professional tailor to secure. One of the hook & eye loops was reinforced as it, too, was loose. The rest of the suit is in excellent to mint condition.
